Teen Modeling – Is it for you?
Is modeling for teenagers? In a world that’s constantly moving and changing, very few people take the time to stop and reflect whether what they’re doing is good or bad. Time is money and people tend to take it too seriously, ignoring some things that may be more important.
The media always craves for something new, something sensational, and in the rush to deliver that people and feelings are trampled. This wouldn’t be so dramatic if it would only involve adults, but teenagers feel the consequences of this as well.
Teenage modeling jobs is not something new but it’s definitely something fascinating that captured a lot of attention. All that attention leads to ever-increasing expectations, meaning only the best of the best make it to the podium. To ensure they’ve got “the best of the best”, modeling agencies usually subject their teen models to extreme pressure, having very high expectations from them. Not every teen is model-material, however, so what happens when the requirements are simply too much? Well, first of all, a teenager which gets kicked out from a modeling agency at one point due to its incapacity to cope with the pressure and requirements will have his self-confidence shattered, which is a very bad thing for a young person whose emotions are still developing. Add the fact that the teen was probably forced to grow up prematurely and you have the perfect receipt for an emotional disaster.
These aspects are usually overlooked or ignored by modeling agencies, which don’t understand that a teenager doesn’t have the inner-strength of an adult. However, this shouldn’t discourage agencies to look for talents and work with teenagers, but the previous aspects need to be taken into consideration to avoid undesirable situations.
Not all these situations can be avoided, though, as there are some modeling aspirants that think they’ve got what it takes to succeed and the truth is that they don’t quite have it. There’s nothing much an agency can do for such individual except give him the truth and hope things will go smooth. As for the others, the main thing the agencies need to understand is that, even though their teen models can usually stand up to their expectations, they are still teenagers, and teenagers need to be treated more delicately than adults. A harsh behavior can leave deep emotional scars on a teenager’s emotions, and such scars don’t heal easily.
